Roger K. McElfresh, 77, of Brownstown passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016, at his residence surrounded by family and friends.

Born Dec. 11, 1938, in Jackson County, he was the son of Walter and Virginia Schwein McElfresh, both of whom preceded him in death. He met the love of his life, Allean E. Taulbee, and they were married Dec. 5, 1958. She preceded him in death in 2015.

Roger attended Lawrenceburg High School and was a top athlete, excelling at basketball, baseball, football and track. He immediately followed in his father’s footsteps and began developing an extraordinary career in the field of construction and development and earned a degree from New York University. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. A prodigious global traveler, Roger’s leadership and expertise on a range of projects led him to work all over the United States and in countries all over the world. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was best known as “Pappy.”

Survivors include four children, Joni Kay Arnhart, Jonda Earlene (William) Armstrong, Judith Lee (Garrett) Byrd and Kenneth Roger (Andrea) McElfresh; a brother, Ronald McElfresh; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry McElfresh and Michael McElfresh.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Winkelpleck-Weesner Funeral Home in Brownstown with his son, Kenneth McElfresh, officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Brownstown.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and from noon until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
