A Seymour man escaped serious injury Friday after a house fire on the northwest side of Seymour.

The fire was reported in the home of Calvin Simpson at 927 Holly Drive.

Lt. John Watson said the fire was in an exhaust fan in the bathroom of the home. He and fellow police officers Keith Williams and Chadd Rogers were able to get the 90-year-old Simpson safely out of the house. The fire was reported at about 2:24 p.m. by a relative with Simpson at the time of the fire.

Seymour firefighters also responded to the fire, which Watson said could have been much worse if the relative had not smelled it when they did.
