Seymour police investigating a theft reported Wednesday at a store on the city’s east side wound up arresting a Johnson County man on counterfeiting and theft charges.

William Eugene Dillard, 33, of Franklin, was booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown on those Level 6 felony charges at 4:09 p.m.

The investigation that led to his arrest began when city police received a call from Walmart Supercenter about a theft at that store at 1600 E. Tipton St.

While en route to the store, Officer Bart Bevers reported seeing a vehicle matching the description of the one suspected of being involved in the reported theft.

Bevers stopped that vehicle, driven by Dillard, in an alley in the 100 block of North Chestnut Street. The west end of that alley was blocked because of Oktoberfest preparations.
