Ellis was appointed through December 2017 to fill an unexpired term vacated by Dan Thomas, who moved out of the county.

Library administrator Mary Reed gave a report on her duties out of the Seymour Library and requested approval for an increase in the budget to replace flooring in the Kidz Korner. The children’s department will temporarily move into the Seymour Library meeting room starting Aug. 22 until work is complete.

The board approved changes to the library’s purchasing policy and approved a new credit card and accounts policy.

Library director Julia Aker shared the “Turning Outward” video from the Harwood Virtual Public Innovator’s Lab that she and technical services manager Monica Boyer are participating in with a grant from the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services.

The library and Jackson County United Way have been conducting community conversations to determine the aspirations of Jackson County residents. The process will help in strategic planning for both organizations.

The board’s budget committee will meet Aug. 10 to create a preliminary 2017 operating budget.

The board’s next regular meeting is at 5 p.m Aug. 15 at the Seymour Library, 303 W. Second St.
