Wanted woman arrested after tip

A Seymour woman wanted for violating her probation on a cocaine conviction in Bartholomew County was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Seymour.

Amanda D. Spencer, 35, was arrested after police received an anonymous tip that she was hiding at a residence on Laurel Street in the city, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department.

Spencer was wanted on a Bartholomew County warrant for failure to appear for a hearing to revoke her probation, police said. That probation stems from her conviction on a dealing in cocaine charge.

The anonymous tip about her location initially was received by the sheriff’s department through its website and then was passed on to Seymour police, who arrested Spencer at the residence.

When city police went to the residence to arrest Spencer, she tried to pass herself off as her sister, which eventually led to her arrest on a local charge of false informing.

At that point, Spencer was arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, where she is being held without bond.

Sheriff Michael Carothers said anyone wishing to submit a tip about criminal activity may call the department at 812-358-2141 or visit jackson countysheriffin.org. Callers or those reporting activity on the website can remain anonymous, he said.
