Seymour police enforce seat belt laws

The Seymour Police Department participated in Operation Pullover Blitz 86 Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement patrols from May 6 to 30.

Nine Seymour police officers working overtime were paid by a federal grant administered by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute. The officers working this overtime detail worked 53½ hours.

The officers conducted 199 traffic stops and issued 119 citations and 119 warning tickets. Four people were arrested for licensing violations.

Seat belt surveys conducted before this event indicated a 94 percent seat belt compliance rate for drivers, and a post-survey indicated an increase to 96 percent for drivers.

The pre- and post-surveys indicated the same 97 percent seat belt compliance for passengers.
