A local veterans organization plans to celebrate the nation’s flag Tuesday at One Chamber Square in Seymour.

The Flag Day program, put together by American Legion Post 89 in Seymour, will begin at 11 a.m. at 105 S. Chestnut St.

Post 89 Commander Larry Shelly will conduct the program, beginning with an opening prayer.

The ceremony will include the replacement of the old American flag with a new one.

There also will be a presentation about the history of the flag from the yellow-and-black “Don’t Tread on Me” Gadsden banner to the present Stars and Stripes flag. The flag history will be presented by Seymour Elks Lodge 462.

After the program, the American Legion and its volunteers will provide a cookout lunch.
