Head of Youth Services Lola Snyder gave a report on the summer reading program when the Jackson County Public Library board of trustees met May16 at the Seymour Library.

The “Get in the Game, READ!” summer reading program is online, in the Seymour, Crothersville and Medora libraries and on the Discovery Bus June 1 through Aug. 1. A kickoff celebration with bouncy houses, face painting, popcorn, games and more will be at the Seymour, Crothersville and Medora libraries from 2 to 6 p.m. June 1.

Participants of all ages will receive prizes when registering and entries for reaching a certain number of days read. Everyone is encouraged to read every day for any amount of time instead of a certain number of hours or books. They also may complete rows on a READ! card for chances to win additional prizes.

Starting at 8:30 a.m. June 1, registration is at links.myjclibrary.org/SummerReading.

After Snyder’s report, the board discussed the Indiana Library Federation District VI Conference conducted April 22 at the Seymour Library, and a preliminary strategic plan timeline then approved changes to the library personnel policy.

The board also approved accepting Food for Fines Aug. 15 through 28. Library cardholders with collection agency accounts may participate after returning undamaged materials and paying the $10 collection agency account fee.

The next board meeting is at 5 p.m. June 20 at the Seymour Library.
