The Seymour boys golf team had a rough outing in Saturday’s Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament.

The conditions proved to be too much for the Owls as they finished in eighth place with a 351.

Bedford North Lawrence won the team crown with a 322 and Columbus East was runners-up with a 325.

Austin Proffitt of Columbus East won the individual championship by firing a 74.

“It was a little disappointing,” Seymour coach Jim Hoffman. “We made pretty basic mistakes out there. Conditions were a little wet and we did not play well from that point. We had it going for a little while but we just could not finish.”

Brady Marshall led the Owls with an 81 and his score was good enough to be named to the Hoosier Hills Conference honorable mention team.

He started with a 43 on the first nine but bounced back to score a back nine of 38.

“Conditions were wet out there but everyone had to play in them,” Marshall said. “I wasn’t striking the ball very well. This course attacks guys whose short game was not very good and I had my issues on and around the green and it kept me from a low score.”

Keaton Simpson added an 83 for the Owls. He went 40 on his first nine and finished with a 43 on the back nine.

“I struck the ball well off the tee and my driver was awesome today,” Simpson said. “My approach was good, but the fairways were really wet and it was hard playing the ball down instead of a lift, clean, and place. My putting was okay but my chipping was really bad.”

Tyler Bullard shot an 88, Noah Beaty scored a 99 and Jake Silence carded a 103 to round-out the Owls scoring.
