Owls go 2-1 at invite

RICHMONDThe Seymour baseball team finished 3-1 at the Richmond Invitational.

On Friday, the Owls opened with an 8-1 win against New Haven.

Seymour scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second and fourth and one in the third.

Satoshi Hirose pitched all seven innings for the Owls, with six strikeouts while giving up five hits and a walk without an earned run.

Tyler Bloom had three hits and Luis Munoz managed four RBI on a pair of singles.

On Saturday morning, the Owls fell to Richmond 5-1 before beating Jay County 4-2.

Against Richmond, the Owls didn’t plate a run until the seventh inning.

Richmond pushed three runs across the plate in the third and two in the fifth.

Janzen Bloom got the start on the mound and would split the six innings with Tyler Bloom.

AJ Boshears had two hits, including an RBI, for the Owls.

Seymour got outhit 8-5 in the contest.

The Owls finished strong against Jay County.

Trailing 2-0, the Owls tied the game with a pair of runs in the fourth inning before scoring one in each of the fifth and sixth.

Alan Perry hit a single and triple while Seth Maki managed a double with two RBIs.

Ryan Wieneke pitched five innings with four strikeouts and Zach Carpenter took the mound for the final two without giving up a hit.

Wednesday, the Owls (15-9) will play Jeffersonville at the Floyd Central sectional.

Tigers fall to Bulldogs

ORLEANSDespite outhitting the opposition 12-9, the Crothersville baseball team fell to Orleans 8-2 on Saturday.

The Tigers committed six errors in the loss.

Jessie Fink, Trevor Peters and Jamie Buxton each had two hits for the Tigers, with Fink also managing an RBI.

Crothersville tallied runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Today, the Tigers (2-14) conclude their regular season with a home game against Southwestern.

On Wednesday, the Tigers play host-school West Washington in the sectional semifinals.

Braves sweep pair

MITCHELLThe Brownstown Central softball team finished their regular season on a winning note, defeating Michell 5-2 and 7-3 in a doubleheader on Saturday.

In game one, the Braves took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning before tallying a pair of scores in the seventh.

Taylor Garland had a double and triple in the game for the Braves with two RBIs.

Jami Bryant got the win in the circle, tossing five strikeouts while giving up one earned run.

The second game, Bryant commanded the ring.

Bryant threw 10 strikeouts for the Braves.

Brownstown Central took a 2-1 advantage in the first inning, and scored runs in every inning but the fifth and seventh.

The Braves had 10 hits, with two from Garland, Lisa Scott and Ariana Benge each.

Leah Stidam, Katie Taggart and Katelyn Gray had doubles.

Today, the Braves (10-13) will play North Harrison at the Corydon Central sectional.

Brownstown Central is on a three game winning streak heading into the postseason.

Boys golf

Tigers take on conference

HENRYVILLECrothersville’s boys golf team placed third of five teams at the Southern Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday, amassing 488 strokes.

Henryville won their fifth straight SAC team championship, their 11th in the last 12 years, combining for 371.

The Hornets’ Luke Davidson shot the lowest score on the day at 79 (+9).

Tyler Luedeman led Crothersville by carding a 105.

Zane Elliott was next for the Tigers at 115, Will Amick 122, Brandon Riley 146 and Jacob James 179.
