Baseball

Owls’ game called off

Seymour’s home game against Charlestown was called off Tuesday night because of the weather.

The Owls were leading 1-0.

No makeup date has been announced.

Late rally not enough for Cougars

ELNORA

Despite closing the deficit to one run in the seventh inning, the Trinity Lutheran baseball team fell to North Daviess 7-6 on Monday.

The teams were tied at 3 after three innings, but North Daviess pushed four runs across the plate in the fourth.

Senior Jacob Schult took the loss on the mound, pitching four innings with eight strikeouts.

Ross Kruse, Chandler Reynolds and Aden Jones each had a pair of singles, while Nick Mensendiek and Jake Moore each hit a double.

Reynolds had three RBIs in the game for Trinity.

Braves remain tied with Generals

BROWNSTOWN

Brownstown Central and Clarksville were able to play 2½ innings of their makeup Mid-Southern Conference game Tuesday, but rain forced another postponement.

With the score tied at 1 in the top of the 11th inning, the teams will try to finish their game Thursday.

The game first started April 26, but it was called in the eighth inning that night because of the weather.

Trinity drops game to Milan

MILAN

The Trinity Lutheran softball team’s 12 hits weren’t enough in a 15-9 loss at Milan on Monday.

Trinity scored one run in the first, two in the third and three in each of the fifth and seventh innings.

Milan plated runs in all but the fifth inning, with a game-high six runs in the fourth.

Trinity’s Savannah Harweger racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Cougars. She homered in the first inning and singled in the fifth and seventh innings.

Two runs in the top of the third helped the Cougars close its deficit to 5-3.

An RBI double by Taylor Russell and a sacrifice fly by Taylor Reynolds sparked Trinity’s rally.

Reynolds had four RBIs for Trinity.

Morgan Gabbard took the loss in the circle for the Cougars.

The Cougars (9-7) will host Brown County tonight before finishing their regular season Thursday against Silver Creek.

Braves matches canceled

BROWNSTOWN

Brownstown Central was scheduled to host Mid-Southern Conference foes Eastern (Pekin) and Clarksville on Tuesday night, but the matches were postponed because of the rain.

No makeup date has been determined.

Cougars fall to Spartans

SHELBYVILLE

The Trinity Lutheran girls tennis team fell to Southwestern 3-2 to conclude its regular season Monday.

At No. 1 singles, the Cougars’ Aurora Willman picked up a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Courtney Barker got a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles for Trinity.

On Thursday, the Cougars (3-11) will play sectional host Seymour (11-5) to begin postseason play.

Boys golf

Columbus North tops Seymour

Columbus North had its best nine-hole score of the season in a 145-178 win against Seymour at Harrison Lake Country Club.

Spencer Fairbanks fired 2-under-par 34 to win medalist honors and led the Bull Dogs. Matt Vorndran added a 36, followed by Jared Imlay at 37, Zach Schiavello at 38, Bryce Turner at 39, Drew Smith at 42, Henry Kiel at 45 and Alex Rivera at 47.
