Lyman E. “Tony” Prewitt, 83, of Seymour passed away at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Born Jan. 15, 1933, in Tampico, he was the son of James Guy and Mary Elizabeth Auffenberg Prewitt, both of whom preceded him in death. On Dec. 13, 1968, in Brownstown, he married Micki Taskey, who survives.

Tony served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He then began a career at Cummins Engine Co., retiring after 35 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 89, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 655 and Loyal Order of Moose 418. He enjoyed playing pool and cards and hanging out with the guys. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing and running trout lines on the river. Tony also had a great love for his many dogs.

Other survivors include a son, Todd (Stephanie Ulrey) Prewitt of Seymour; a sister, Jeanette “Jean” Shelton of Brownstown; a sister-in-law, Vickie Burrell; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Marion “Prewitt,” Osborne “Bob,” Chester “Check,” James, “Toots,” Mary, Jack and Jakie Guy “Jake.” He also had three siblings who died at birth.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre in Seymour. Cremation will take place after visitation, and interment will follow at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jackson County Dog Shelter, Hospice of Schneck Medical Center, American Heart Association or American Stroke Association.
