A fish fry to benefit the Joe Jackson Hotel restoration project will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Whistle Stop, 2379 S. Main St., Vallonia.

Meals, including two sides, will be available for $7. Fish sandwiches will be sold for $4.50. Desserts, including homemade pies, will be sold separately. Proceeds benefit the Joe Jackson Hotel restoration project.

Joe Jackson was a local businessman with ties to Jackson and Washington counties. He financed construction of the hotel, which dates to 1914. The hotel is across from the replica of Fort Vallonia.

The two-story building, which at one time also housed a barber shop and a restaurant, is owned by the Fort Vallonia Days Association and is listed on both state and national registers of historic places.

Restoration work to date includes a new roof, a new façade, framing the interior and new wiring.

Fish fries are conducted on the second Saturday of the month during the warm-weather months. Dates for upcoming fish fries are June 11, July 9, Aug. 13, Sept. 10 and Oct. 8.
