Troopers arrest five on criminal charges

Five people have been arrested on various criminal charges after separate traffic stops near Seymour in the past two days, police report.

The most recent arrests occurred at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday when Sgt. Stephen Wheeles responded to a report of possible drug activity in a vehicle just off Interstate 65 at State Road 11.

One of the occupants of the vehicle, Amber N. Miller, 23, of New Albany, was arrested on a Clark County warrant for failure to appear, said Wheeles, an Indiana State Police public information officer.

A second person in the vehicle, Kenneth W. Henson, 23, of New Albany, was arrested for possession of a hypodermic syringe, a Level 6 felony.

Miller and Henson were taken to the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown, where Miller was being held pending transfer to Clark County. Henson was being held without bond pending his initial hearing. Troopers Kevin Riordan and Seth Davidson assisted with those arrests.

At 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Trooper Randel Miller said he became suspicious of criminal activity after stopping a 2006 Lexus being driven south near the 51-mile marker on the interstate.

Miller said his dog, Jinx, alerted to the odor of an illegal drug coming from the vehicle, and heroin, controlled substances, syringes and drug paraphernalia were found during a subsequent search of the vehicle.

Three Crossville, Tennessee, residents, Amy L. Boston, 40, James L. Turner, 32, and Dexter W. Parsons, 30, were arrested on felony charges of dealing heroin, possession of heroin, possession of a hypodermic syringe, possession of a Legend Drug and possession of drug paraphernalia. All three were being held without bail at the jail pending initial hearings in Jackson Circuit Court.
