Anne Baxter, 81 of Seymour passed away Friday, April 8, 2016.

Born Feb. 2, 1935, in Charlestown, she was the daughter of Lawrence and Myrtle L. Cole Hattabaugh, both of whom preceded her in death. On Sept. 19, 1959, in Jonesville, she married Ralph Baxter who preceded her in death on May 29, 1997.

Anne was executive coordinator for five counties and the president of the Jackson County branch of the Association for Retarded Citizens, now known as The Arc of Jackson County. A passionate advocate, Anne devoted her life’s work to the needs and quality of life for people with disabilities. Past service also includes a position as the activities director for Jackson Park Convalescent Center and secretary for the Women’s International Bowling Congress (WIBC) at what was then known as Seymour Starlight Bowl.

Her other community services include the organization of a bowling league for people with disabilities and, most notably, her missionary work as Dazy Bo, the clown, who visited and entertained the Jackson County community.

Survivors include her children, Shelli K. Baxter, Sharon Allman and Patrick Baxter; grandchildren, Josh Alvey, Dennis Frady, Rhiannon Petro and David Petro; great-grandchildren, Lucas Petro, Ealiejah Petro, Madison and Cameron Alvey; sisters, Lucille Huber, Ruth Marie Wilson and Judy Taylor; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, George Clater Jr.; sisters, Vivian Cevallos and Joan Keith; and a great-grandchild, Dominic Maryfield.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Voss & Sons. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
