A 59-year-old Jefferson County woman died Friday morning in a wreck in Jennings County.

Roberta Young of Madison was pronounced dead at the scene from her injuries, according to a news release from Lt. Mike Mowery with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the wreck reported at 2:06 a.m. Friday on State Road 3, just south of County Road 800N in Jennings County.

Mowery said the 1997 Saturn that Young was driving south on State Road 3 went left of center and off the road, hitting a utility pole. The vehicle then spun around and came to rest facing north.

He said it appeared Young was not wearing a seat belt. The vehicle’s airbags also did not deploy.

Officer Anthony Maberry investigated the wreck and was assisted by Officer Shawn Minton, Rescue 20 personnel and firefighters and medical personnel with Center Township Fire Department.
