Philip R. Coomer, 83, of Seymour passed away Friday, March 25, 2016, at Lutheran Community Home.

Born Sept. 16, 1932, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, he was the son of Joseph and Cerilda Bryant Coomer, both of whom preceded him in death. On Nov. 18, 1961, in Scott County, he married Hazel Eversole, who survives.

Philip served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked at Arvin Industries for 20 years and retired from Cummins Engine Co. He had a handyman business for awhile after he retired. He was a member of Seymour Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the American Legion. He also was a Kentucky Colonel and loved hunting, fishing and gardening.

Other survivors include his children, Steven (Charlotte) Coomer and Lisa (Mark) Green; grandchildren, Zachariah Green, Bonnie Green, Jacob Green, Ericka Coomer and Melissa Coomer; great-grandchildren, Rylan Green, Arissa Green and Jade Green; brothers, Thomas (Juanette) Coomer and Rufus (Linda) Coomer; and sisters, Geraldine (Joseph) Conn, Ida Heath, Patricia Coomer and Josie Gross.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Sonny Heath and Bradley Gross.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Voss Chapel. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled Veterans 47, Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service.
