Asberry Riley, 77, of Crothersville, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Tidewell Hospice in Bradenton, Florida.

Born April 19, 1938, in Altro, Kentucky, he was the son of Steve and Stella Stidham Riley, both of whom preceded him in death. On Dec. 2, 1961, in Crothersville, he married his high school sweetheart, Mable Irene Hickerson, who passed away June 29, 2015.

Asberry was a 1956 Austin High School graduate and a United States Navy veteran who worked as a seabee in the U.S. Naval Construction Force. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ and the former Masonic Lodge in Crothersville.

He retired after 40 years from Cummins Engine Co., where he worked in the maintenance department in Columbus and Seymour. Asberry enjoyed spending his winter months in Arizona and Florida with many of his friends. He loved bluegrass music and playing his guitar that he taught himself how to play after he retired.

Survivors include a daughter, Dana S. (Doug) Pingel of New Palestine; three grandchildren, Sarah E. (Aaron) Stephens of Indianapolis, Matthew L. Pingel of New Palestine and Jordan J. (Ashlee) Prewitt of Plainfield; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Diana Prewitt of Plainfield, Jackson James Prewitt of Plainfield and Analee Talia Stephens of Indianapolis; and four siblings, Maud Martin of Edinburgh, Frank (Peggy) Riley of Salem, South Carolina, Frona Barnett of Seymour and Jeff (Debbie) Riley of Seymour.

Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Gail Freyn, on May 25, 2013.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Crothersville with the Rev. Bud Walther officiating. Crothersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1083 will conduct a military graveside service at Crothersville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday.
