The search of a residence early Tuesday morning on Seymour’s east side yielded evidence of a drug operation that included the sale of heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana, police report.

That evidence led to police requesting a dozen criminal charges, including dealing in methamphetamine and marijuana, against William Richard McCasland, 36, and 11 charges against Peggy Ann Leturgez, 43.

The two Seymour residents were initially arrested Monday night on charges of maintaining a common nuisance. The new charges were added after Seymour Officer Jim Handley obtained a search warrant for the home the pair share in the 700 block of Euclid Avenue.

The warrant, issued Tuesday morning, was obtained as part of an investigation into information police recently received about possible drug activity at the residence, according to a news release from Seymour Police Department.

Armed with that warrant, officers reported discovering more than 62 grams of packaged methamphetamine, packaged heroin, packaged marijuana, multiple marijuana plants, multiple hypodermic syringes, numerous items of drug paraphernalia, drug packaging material, multiple items used in the manufacture of methamphetamine and approximately $600 in cash.

Also located on the property was a vehicle stolen from a residence in Indianapolis.

Besides the maintaining a common nuisance and dealing charges, McCasland faces preliminary charges of possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine, two counts possession of marijuana, possession of two or more precursors with intent to manufacture, possession of a hypodermic syringe, unlawful use of a police radio and possession of paraphernalia.

Leturgez also faces preliminary charges of possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a hypodermic syringe, unlawful use of a police radio and possession of paraphernalia.

Both were booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown at 11:16 p.m. Monday and were being held without bond pending initial hearings.

Handley was assisted by Cpl. Devin Cornwell and officers Mike Payne and Benjamin Miller.
