RUSHVILLE

Elsie M. Fortmeyer, 85, of Rushville, and formerly of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2016.

She married Harlan Fortmeyer in 1950, and they were married for 63 years when Harlan passed away.

Born and raised on a farm near Jonesville, she attended St. Paul Lutheran School and then graduated from Columbus High School.

Elsie and Harlan lived on a farm until March 1961 when they were forced to move for construction of Interstate 65. They moved to a dairy farm in Shelby County, where they raised registered jersey cattle. The family were all active members of the Indiana Jersey Cattle Club for many years.

She worked at Kroger in Shelbyville as a cashier and in the office before they moved to their home on Lake Pineda in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, in 1989. Both enjoyed the lake, the village and Arkansas mountains very much.

Survivors included two sons, Steven (Dinah) Fortmeyer of Columbus and David (Freida) Fortmeyer of Rushville.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. today at Faith Lutheran Church at Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Burial will follow at CedarVale Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service today.

CedarVale Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
