A Scott County man found sleeping in a car Sunday on a rural road in Jennings County faces three felony charges, police report.

Jonathan L. Evans, 27, of Austin was arrested by county Officer Anthony Maberry, who had responded to a report of a man sleeping in a green Ford Focus. That vehicle was found parked facing west in the eastbound lane of County Road 500S in Vernon Township, Maberry said.

Evans told Maberry and county Officer Drew Heilers that he did not remember anything from Saturday night and he was cold, Maberry said.

When Evans asked Maberry to get his coat from the vehicle, Maberry said, he saw drug paraphernalia, cash and an ammunition magazine to a gun later found in the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, Maberry said, police found about 16.5 grams of methamphetamine along with other items used in the distribution and sale of methamphetamine.

Evans was arrested and faces a Level 2 felony charge of dealing in methamphetamine, a Level 4 felony charge of possession of methamphetamine and a level 6 felony charge of violation of the Legend Drug Act. He also faces a Class A misdemeanor charge of possession of paraphernalia.

He was booked into the Jennings County Jail, where he was being held on a $100,000 bond. He also is being held on a Jefferson County warrant for failure to appear.

The call that led to Evans’ arrest was received by dispatchers about 7 a.m. Sunday.
