Ruth Lydia Elizabeth Peters Wischmeier, 86, of Brownstown passed away at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 11, 2015, at Hoosier Christian Village.

Born June 24, 1929, in Vallonia, she was the daughter of John and Clara Claycamp Peters, both of whom preceded her in death. On March 28, 1948, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vallonia, she married Alvin “Pete” Wischmeier, who preceded her in death.

Ruth was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She worked at Brownstown Public Library and also was employed with the U.S. Postal Service in Brownstown.

Ruth enjoyed attending the activities of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoyed bowling with her friends, playing cards and traveling with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Gary (Eleanor) Wischmeier of Freetown and Keith (Nancy) Wischmeier of Vallonia; a daughter, Debra (Stephen) Klinge of Vallonia; two adopted sons, Michael Wischmeier and Mark Wischmeier, both of Florida; a foster son, Edward (Linda) Dannis of Texas; a sister, Leona (Jewel) Fleetwood of Columbus; 10 grandchildren, Paul Wischmeier, Beth (Trent) Shelton, Tom (Joanah) Wischmeier, Anna (Lucas) Spencer, Bradley (Rebecca) Klinge, Lisa (Todd) Harrison, Amy (Gary) Baker, Melissa (John) Brock, Allison (Jamie) Brown and Ryan (Kasey) Wischmeier; 23 great-grandchildren, Luke, Addie and Drew Shelton, Dylan, Caden and Landon Wischmeier, Rhett Spencer, Olivia, Laina and Gavin Klinge, Avery Harrison, Logan and Brinley Baker, Seth, Emily, Macy, Ava and Ellesyn Brock, Eli, Ella and Silas Brown, and Maddie and Mason Wischmeier; and three stepgrandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer and Courtney.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rachel Stuckwish and Helen Toppe; two brothers, Fred Peters and Herschel Peters; a great-grandson, Ethan; and a great-granddaughter, Faith.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, with Pastor Martin Keller officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Spurgeon Funeral Home in Brownstown and from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church.

Burial will be at the church cemetery.
