David W. Otte, 71, of Columbus and a native of Jackson County, died at 3 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at his home.

Born June 3, 1944, in Jackson County, he was the son of Clarence H. and Flora M. Hamblen Otte, both of whom preceded him in death. On July 4, 1970, he married Helen Smith.

Earlier in life, David worked at Pyramid Paper. He later was a factory employee at Ventra for many years. He also had worked for Columbus Security. He was an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan and enjoyed attending auctions and flea markets in Scottsburg, and he enjoyed the time he spent with his dog, Spike.

Survivors besides his wife of 45 years include children, Kevin Otte of Seymour, Aaron Otte of Columbus and Darla (Eric) Anderson of Columbus; grandchildren, Hunter Otte and Haley Fields; brother, Danny (Janet) Otte of Seymour; sisters, Delilah (Charles) Stanton of Seymour and Diana Otte of Freetown; several nieces and nephews; and his former neighbor and best friend, Harold “Bud” Newland of Columbus.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver and Glick Funeral Home in Columbus, with Pastor Douglas Smith officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday.

Burial will be in Garland Brook Cemetery.
