In a match that was delayed two weeks due to lightning Sept. 11, the Seymour boys tennis team earned a pair of three-set wins to edge Brownstown Central 3-2 on Tuesday.

Both the No. 1 singles and No. 3 singles spots had to play just a third set on the day, as both matches split sets in the previous outing.

At No. 1 singles, the Owls’ Alex Barry won a marathon match 6-7 (4), 6-2, 7-6 (10) over the Braves’ Lute Lahrman.

Adam Barry claimed the No. 3 singles match against the Braves’ Kent Criminger 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-4.

Prior to Tuesday, the Owls had already won the No. 2 singles match as Ty McCory bested the Braves’ Cole Brock 6-1, 6-3.

Sy Zickler and Ethan Carlin claimed a win for the Braves at No. 2 doubles over the Owls’  Tanner Johnson and John Newton 6-2, 6-0 at the earlier date.

At No. 1 doubles, the Braves’ Riley Carlin and Sam Hoff had won their match over Josiah Rudge and Grant Handloser 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

The Owls (4-10) will host Jennings County today in Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament and the Braves move to 14-6 on the season.

Trinity falls on senior night

SEYMOUR

Edinburgh spoiled senior night for the Trinity Lutheran tennis team by handing the Cougars a 5-0 loss at home Tuesday afternoon.

The Cougars kept it close at several positions as Jonathan Keith at No. 2 singles, Tanner Prewitt at No. 3 singles, and Spencer Muhlbach and Pierce McCammon at No. 2 doubles all fell 6-4 in their first sets.

Keith and Prewitt both managed to win only one game in their second sets, while the doubles team fell 6-2 in their second set.

Andrew Rodriquez fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Bailey Baker and Hunter Morgan lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Trinity seniors Rodriquez and Prewitt were honored before the match.

The Cougars, 3-11, will close out their regular season Thursday against Southwestern.

Trinity competes at Dragon Invite

SELLERSBURG

Freshman A.J. Goecker ran a 17:44 to place fourth individually to lead the Trinity Lutheran boys’ cross-country team in the Dragon Invitational at Silver Creek Tuesday afternoon.

Luke Onken placed 17th at 18:34, Nikolai Haak was 48th at 19:51, and Alex Royalty ran 24:46 to place 115th.

The Cougars had only four runners compete and did not have a team score.
