Braves sweep Day 1 of Scottsburg Invitational

SCOTTSBURG — The Brownstown Central boys tennis team dominated the first day of competition at the Scottsburg Invitational on Friday.

At No. 1 singles, Lute Lahrman downed Austin’s top player 6-2, 6-3.

The Braves’ Cole Brock came up with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Austin at No. 2 singles, and Kent Criminger bested Clarksville 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

Riley Carlin and Sam Hoff bested Scottsburg 6-2, 7-6 in No. 1 doubles play, while the No. 2 doubles team of Sy Zickler and Ethan Carlin bested Clarksville 6-3, 6-0.

The Braves resume tournament play today.

VOLLEYBALL

Tigers fall in four

CROTHERSVILLE — The Crothersville volleyball team got off to a fast start against South Central but couldn’t muster another game the rest of the way in a 21-25, 25-19, 25-29, 25-22 loss Friday.

Nikki Hickman led the Tigers’ hitting unit by going 13 of 14 with 10 kills, while Lacey Hall made nine hits on 10 tries with six kills.

The Tigers (4-7) will compete in the Henryville Tournament today.
