Grammy-winning gospel singer Guy Penrod has performed in Indianapolis and Louisville.
But never in between.
That will change next week when he makes a special stop in Seymour for a concert at First Baptist Church.

The concert will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 18. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the church, 505 Community Drive.
Penrod is a first cousin to Pastor Dan Barringer, who is serving as the transitional minister at the church.
Barringer said he recently attended an inaugural family reunion and Penrod happened to be there, too.
“We don’t see each other that much. He was raised in Texas, and I was raised in Illinois,” Barringer said. “But we were talking back and forth, and he said he has never really been in this area.”
Although Barringer didn’t think much would come from the conversation, he later was surprised when Penrod’s booking agent called and asked if Barringer’s church would be interested in hosting a concert.
“I thought it was a great opportunity to bring a quality show that delivers the Gospel message to the community,” Barringer said. “Our church is very excited.”
Penrod served as the lead singer of the popular Gaither Vocal Band for 14 years before launching a solo career in 2008. In 2013, he was named Soloist of the Year at the National Quartet Convention.
Barringer said that, even though he’s related to Penrod and has his albums at home, this will be the first time he has seen him perform live.
He expects Penrod to draw a big crowd. The church can seat 650 people and likely will be sold out, he said.
“We’re halfway there already,” Barringer said. “Anytime you mention gospel music, people know him.”
The show will be one people will remember, he added.
“His concerts are inspirational in nature and deliver the Gospel message through song,” Barringer said. “They are filled with excitement.”
