Monte Lewis Huffman, 80, of New Paltz, New York, and New Port Richey, Florida, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, in Kingston, New York.

Born Oct. 22, 1934, in Sparksville, he was the son of Elvin Lewis and Kathleen Allman Huffman, both of whom preceded him in death.

Monte graduated from Medora High School in 1952 and Indiana University in 1962. He served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956.

He was a teacher and coach in Elkhart County, The American School in Tehran, Iran, and Clermont in Marion County before accepting a position at Cummins Engine Co., where he was recreation superintendent until 1984. He was superintendent of leisure services for the city of Winter Haven, Florida, from 1985 until his retirement in 1999.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jane Hall Huffman; sons, Mark Logan Huffman of Buffalo, New York, and Craig Lewis (Cheryl) Huffman of New Paltz, New York; grandchildren, Monte Lewis and Thomas Logan Huffman of New Paltz, New York. Also surviving are three brothers, Donald (Janet Shafer) Huffman, Norman Huffman and Jeffrey (Brenda) Huffman; brother-in-law, George W. Hall; and sisters-in-law, Sara (Norman) Beck and Sue (Terry) Boknecht, all of Jackson County.

A celebration of life will be conducted in Indiana at a later time.

Arrangements were handled by Keyser Funeral Service in Kingston, New York.

In memory of Monte, the family is requesting contributions be made to Medora United Methodist Church, 42 E. Adam Street, Medora, IN 47260.
