Dale Warren “Cookie Monster” Cooksey, 83, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at Schneck Medical Center.

Born Feb. 14, 1932, in Greensburg, he was the son of James Elmer and Lucille Reynolds Cooksey, both of whom preceded him in death.

On July 8, 1970, at Bethel Baptist Church in Columbus, he married Doris Isenhower, who survives.

Cooksey’s motto was, “If I can’t bounce, kick, throw or drive it, I’m not interested in it.” He was a member of Seymour First Baptist Church. He was a supervisor for the state highway department when it put in Interstate 65. He worked for Spicer Vault Company in Columbus. Then, he and his wife became the owners/operators of Quality Vault Company.

In recent years, he was a driver and beloved member of the staff at Voss Funeral Service and Bob Poynter Chevrolet. He enjoyed golfing, driving and NASCAR. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who was always attending events in which his family members were participating.

Besides his wife, survivors include his children, Glen Brock, Vicki (Buddy) King, Gail Johnson, Julie (Rick) Stillabower, Vickie Perkins, Mark Cooksey, Keith (Jennifer) Richie and Christie Hague; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Hurley.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Hurley.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Voss Chapel in Seymour with the Rev. Ken Earnest officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

A coffee table discussion will be at 7 p.m. today at Voss Chapel for anyone who would like to share a fond memory of Cooksey.
