Hornets fight, fall to Lighthouse Christian

BLOOMINGTON

The Medora volleyball put up a tough fight at Lighthouse Christian on Tuesday but was unable to finish games in a 26-24, 29-25, 25-23, 25-23 loss.

Megan Weddell led the Hornets, making 20 of 21 hits with 10 kills and making 21 of 23 serves and eight aces.

The Hornets’ Kailen Flynn had a strong day with 24 hits on 30 tries while going 12 of 14 serving with an ace.

The Hornets (1-5) will visit county rival Crothersville tonight.

CROSS-COUNTRY

Crothersville has solid outing at New Washington

The Crothersville boys cross-country team claimed second place with 61 points while the girls notched third place at 69 points at the New Washington Invitational on Tuesday.

Southwestern took first place in both the boys and girls races.

The boys were led by Lane Wienhorst, who clocked 20:21 for fifth place.

Braydee Gillis came in next for the Tigers, at 23:08, for 12th, while Matt Wilburn clocked 24:14 for 14th.

In 16th place, Kelsey Spangler finished in 24:16 and Noah Hoskins rounded-out the Tigers’ top runners with a 17th place finish in 24:14.

Breanna Barger finished in second place, 21:29, in the girls race.

Barger was bested by .05 seconds to Switzerland County’s Whitley Schrimer for top finish.

Piper Hensley was next for the Tigers, 10th place, in 26:08 followed by Tristan Maschino’s time of 28:22 for 15th.

The Tigers took the 22 through 24 spots with Claudia Henry finishing in 37:22, Taylor Blake running a 37:24 and Alisha Basil crossing at 38:19.
