Program for older workers accepting applications

A local nonprofit has openings in a program that offers training and other services for older Hoosiers as a steppingstone to employment.

The state office of Experience Works, a national nonprofit organization, operates the Senior Community Service Employment Program in 43 Hoosier counties, including Jackson.

The program is free and provides paid community service assignments at local and public nonprofit organizations, training, referral to needed services and job search assistance.

“The search for employment can be difficult or even overwhelming for many older workers,” said David Hicks, state program manager for Experience Works. “This is a great opportunity to build confidence and gain valuable skills that respond to today’s job market.”

The program is available to people age 55 and older who are unemployed and meet other criteria.

Jackson County residents may apply from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at WorkOne, 323 Dupont Drive in Seymour.

For information, to find out if you qualify or to schedule an appointment, call Experience Works toll-free at 866-796-8550.

The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Labor and administered by Experience Works.
