Scipio man facing felony charges after traffic stop in North Vernon

Tribune staff reports

A Scipio man was arrested following a Tuesday morning traffic stop in North Vernon.

Eric J. Easter, 39, faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a syringe and possession of drug paraphernalia, all Level 6 felonies.

About 9 a.m. Tuesday, Indiana State Police Trooper Randel Miller stopped a 2000 Chevrolet sport utility vehicle, driven by Easter, on State Road 7 at Country Squire Boulevard for speeding.

During the stop, Miller said he became suspicious of criminal activity. He deployed his K-9, Jinx, who alerted to the odor of an illegal drug coming from the vehicle.

While searching the vehicle, Miller said he located a controlled substance, methamphetamine residue, syringes and drug paraphernalia.

Easter was then arrested and booked into the Jennings County Jail in Vernon on a $2,055 bond. He will be given an initial court date to appear in Jennings County Circuit Court.

Miller was assisted by officers with the Jennings County Sheriff’s Department.
