County board to consider gun manufacturing request

The five-member Jackson County Board of Zoning Appeals will meet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the plan commission office, 202 E. Walnut St., Brownstown.

The only agenda item is a request from Jackson Howder, who plans to open a retail and archery sales store at 8720 W. State Road 58 in Kurtz.

Howder, who is doing business as Howder Arms LLC, also plans to manufacture firearms and perform custom gunsmith services in a building on the 0.66-acre site that formerly was a restaurant.

According to his application, Howder plans to be open from noon to 7 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. He also will be available by appointment.

Board meetings are open to the public and press.
