A Jennings County man was arrested Tuesday by police investigating a report of a stolen vehicle.

Branden T. Wood, 24, of North Vernon, faces a Level 5 felony charge of attempted battery with a deadly weapon and Level 6 felony charges of residential entry and auto theft.

Police report Wood was arrested during a traffic stop involving a vehicle reported stolen about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday to the North Vernon Police Department.

That vehicle was later located east of North Vernon and stopped by North Vernon Officer Seth Beville and Jennings County Officer Garrett Hoppock, according to a news release from that department.

The vehicle was returned to the owner, who told police he had tried to confront the person taking the vehicle and that person tried to run over him.
