Letter: Local boxer thanks museum

To the editor:

I am a retired boxer and would like to show my appreciation to the many people who helped me get to where I am today.

I fought on the same card as professional “Smoking” Joe Frazier; fought at the PAL Club in Indianapolis; and Golden Gloves in Indianapolis and Louisville. I fought against these guys in amateur fights, Barry Clark, Dave Vogel, Turtle Owens, Greg Page, Jackson Clifton and “School Boy” Baker.

I also fought against pro Marvin Johnson and fought Guy Dwayne Vetitote, who once beat Leon Spinks, and I beat Vetitote and received a plaque for that accomplishment.

I recently was put in the hall of fame in the Jackson County History Center museum in Brownstown. I am proud to have accomplished a good boxing career with the help of God, all my trainers, fans and friends.

Floyd Sanders,

Brownstown

(Editor’s note: An exhibit about Sanders’ accomplishments recently was placed in a museum at the Jackson County History Center in Brownstown.)
