Shields High School Class ’53 reunion set

Shields High School Class of 1953 conducted its 62nd reunion June 20 at The Pines Fireside Room in Seymour, with 39 graduates and guests in attendance.

Irene Nichalson Sprenger and Joan Horstman Elsner welcomed members at the door with informational programs and name tags. Classmates gathered early to get reacquainted, reminisce and take photos.

After the social hour, the president of the senior class, Don Decker of Carmel, California, greeted the group and led them in singing the “Seymour Fight Song.”

Ronnie Clark of Boonville asked the dinner blessing prior to the buffet.

Following the meal, Decker conducted the business meeting. Notes were read from some who were unable to attend because of illness. Others sent best wishes to the class.

There was a vote to conduct the 65th reunion in three years and keep the same committee of Sprenger, Elsner, Bill Sciarra, Jim Harvey, Mary Manuel Stevens, Margaret Sutton Pollert, Doris Montgomery Baurle and Vivian Pearson Schroer.

A candle-lighting memoriam was presented by Baurle and Stevens for the 67 deceased graduates and 29 deceased non-graduate classmates.

Door prizes were awarded. Attendees were from Columbus, New Whiteland, Crothersville, Jasper, Richmond, Franklin, Boonville, Seymour and also Carmel, California, and Paris, Illinois.

Fifteen members and guests attended an informal get-together at the Knights of Columbus broasted chicken dinner June 19.
