Mable I. Riley, 77, a lifelong resident of Crothersville, passed away at 8:10 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2015, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.

Born June 22, 1938, in Crothersville, she was the daughter of Palmer Hickerson Sr. and Gladys Montgomery Hickerson, both of whom preceded her in death. On Dec. 2, 1961, at Immanuel Church of Christ in Crothersville, she married her high school sweetheart, Asberry Riley, who survives in Crothersville.

Mable graduated from Crothersville High School in 1957. She was a homemaker while her children were at home, then worked at Crothersville Community Schools in the cafeteria as a cook until retiring in 1997. Mable was an active member of Immanuel Church of Christ where she sang in the choir. She was in Happy Apronettes Extension Homemakers club, enjoyed baking and making wedding cakes. She loved spending her winter months in Arizona and Florida with many of her and Asberry’s friends. She also enjoyed playing the mandolin and harmonizing with others.

Other survivors include a daughter, Dana S. (Doug) Pingel of New Palestine; three grandchildren, Sarah E. (Aaron) Stephens of Indianapolis, Matthew L. Pingel of New Palestine, and Jordon J. (Ashlee) Prewitt of Plainfield; three great-grandchildren, Olivia Diana Prewitt, Jackson James Prewitt and Analee Talia Stephens; two brothers, Jimmie (Maribell) Hickerson of Crothersville and Billie (Barbara) Hickerson of Summerville, South Carolina; a sister, Dorothy Havener of Whiteland; and three sisters-in-law, Ilean Hickerson, of Crothersville, Virginia Hickerson of Greenfield and Harriett Hickerson of Crothersville.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Tina Gail Freyn, on May 25, 2013; four brothers, Miles, Bobbie, Palmer and Jack Hickerson; and an infant sister, Betty Lee Hickerson.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Adams Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Crothersville with the Rev. Bud Walther officiating. Burial will follow at Crothersville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
