A monthlong investigation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department led to the arrest of an area man on child molestation charges.

Mark E. Jones, 58, of Norman, faces a Level 1 felony charge of child molesting and was booked into the Jackson County Jail without bond Monday.

Police said a complaint was made to the sheriff’s department May 2. Through the investigation, it was learned by police that two girls from Brownstown were the victims of the incident, according to a news release.

If convicted, Jones could face 20 to 50 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.

Sgt. Stan Darlage handled the initial investigation, and Detective Darin Downs later joined the investigation.
