Paul James McAbee, 81, of Spartanburg, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 25, 2015, at his home.

Born Jan. 23, 1934, in Spartanburg, he was the son of Paul Leo and Mary Ruth Dial McAbee, both of whom preceded him in death.

He was a member of Legacy Church, a song evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene for a number of years and recorded multiple albums. He was a graduate of Fairforest High School, where he was selected as a member of the National High School All-American football team of 1950. He was employed with Harley Bag Corp. for 25 years.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Evelyn Burke McAbee; daughters, Denise (Rodney) McAbee Upton of Spartanburg and Tracie (Kevin) McAbee Baird of Charleston, South Carolina; grandchildren, Blake (Lindsay) Simpson, Brittany (Donald) Wilkins, Clayton (Bethany) Baird, Tyler Baird and Kalyn Baird; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. today at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Baird officiating.

Visitation will follow the services at the chapel.
