Republicans plan caucus

The Jackson County Republican Party will conduct a caucus to fill the Brownstown Town Council Ward 2 seat.

The party’s precinct committeemen will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Jackson County Courthouse in Brownstown. The meeting is not open to the public.

Lewis recently resigned from the town council since he is moving out of Ward 2, which is on the northeast end of town.

Bethany Botkin Brewster is the only person to apply for the position. She already had filed a declaration of candidacy for that seat, which will be on the ballot for the Nov. 3 general election.

Anyone else interested in applying has until Saturday to call party chairwoman Melissa Acton at 812-569-0135. A letter of interest is required.

The person chosen will finish out Lewis’ term through the end of this year. Town residents will vote for council members in the general election.
