“American Real: The Forrest Lucas Story” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at YES Cinema at Fourth and Jackson streets in downtown Columbus.

Admission is $3, with partial proceeds earmarked for Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center and the Orphan Grain Train outreach ministry to aid the area’s needy.

The 68-minute documentary, first shown locally last fall, includes Lucas’ modest beginnings, including his mother’s work for 65 cents per hour in a sewing factory, and the family growing up in poverty.

Lucas, a Jackson County native, is now CEO of Lucas Oil Products, a multimillion dollar company.

The film includes Lucas revisiting the local spot where his boyhood home once stood as he travels back through painful childhood memories, including an alcoholic, absentee father.

Along with the retelling of Lucas’ past, the film also explores the story of his wife, Charlotte Lucas, and their tale of love and sacrifice, according to film websites.

The couple shares that their bond is what their company was truly built upon. Through interviews with many of Lucas’ employees, the film also examines what drives such a successful businessman.
