Students compete in state music event

Students from St. Ambrose Catholic School recently competed in the Indiana State School Music Association Vocal, Piano and Instrumental Solo and Ensemble contests.

The school was represented by two vocal ensembles, six vocal solos, one piano solo, two instrumental ensembles and four instrumental solos.

Winning gold medals on Jan. 31 at South Decatur Junior/Senior High School were the vocal trio of Chloe Baker, Zina Collins and Lauren Fleetwood; the vocal septet of Emma Gillaspy, Abby Lemming, Peyton Levine, Avery Ragon, Haidy Romero, Hannah Romero and Kate Snook; Abby Lemming for her piano solo; and Zina Collins, Lauren Fleetwood, Emma Gillaspy, Andrew Levine, Peyton Levine and Avery Ragon for their vocal solos.

Instrumentalists competed on Feb. 7 at Columbus East High School, and the woodwind sextet of Zina Collins, Emma Gillaspy, Peyton Levine, Haidy Romero, Hannah Romero and Kate Snook won gold medals. The woodwind trio of Chloe Baker, Zina Collins and Hannah Romero also won a gold medal, and a second woodwind trio from the school, Samantha Jacobi, Sydney Stewart and Valeria Ramirez, also won gold medals.

Sarah Lemming took home gold for her violin solo, and clarinet solos performed by Zina Collins and Sydney Stewart each won gold.

The students are coached by St. Ambrose music teacher Becky Grelle and assisted by Bridey Jacobi.
