Schneck announces student art competition

Schneck Medical Center in Seymour is conducting an art contest for local kindergarten through Grade 12 students.

This year’s theme is “Wellness: Take the Stairs.”

The goal of the contest is to make students, their families and school staff more aware of a simple, no-cost decision they can make every day — taking the stairs instead of elevators or escalators.

According to a news release, an adult can lose six pounds per year by simply taking two extra flights of stairs each day. Stair climbing also can help someone achieve and maintain a healthy body weight and help them build and maintain healthy bones, muscles and joints.

Artwork must be received no later than March 19 to be eligible. Participants can email a photo or digital copy of their entry to [email protected]. The entry needs to include the student’s name, school and grade, contact information, and also a statement of how this contest has raised awareness of the benefits of taking the stairs.

The finalists will be announced the week of March 30, and there will be an art show April 19.
