A strong contingency of Seymour boys swimmers competed in the preliminaries at the Floyd Central Sectional on Thursday.

The top-eight finishers on the night advanced to the finals, while the bottom-eight will compete in the consolation Saturday.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Jake Vance, Skyler Cash, Noah Bullard and Jon Montgomery took first place with a 1:36.78 time.

Bullard, a junior, finished the night with a pair of strong individual performances, taking second in the 200 individual medley (2:08.68) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.45).

In the 50 freestyle, Montgomery placed second in 22.75 while Vance took fifth in 23.53.

Montgomery also placed second in the 100 freestyle, timing 51.30.

Levi Pfaffenberger earned a trip to the finals with a seventh-place finish in 1:58.32 for the 200 freestyle.

The 400 freestyle relay squad of Montgomery, Bullard, Steve Frohling and Vance placed fifth with a time of 3:46.06. That same team earned third in the 200 medley relay at 1:46.17.

The sectional finals are set for 1 p.m. today at Highland Hills Middle School in Georgetown.
