David Lee “Sonny” Fleehearty, 85, of Seymour, passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born Dec. 22, 1929, in Seymour, he was the son of Zella Elnora Rascoe and William Alfred Fleehearty.

He married Lena Patton in 1949, and she passed away in 1982. He married Dorothy Pearl Hopper Kilgas on Dec. 1, 1984.

He was a member of Peter’s Switch Church of the Nazarene, an expert in the maintenance field and managed Moynahan Properties. Sonny had a great sense of humor that the family will always remember as uplifting. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, sitting on the front porch, going to Madison and sitting on a bench along the Ohio River. His greatest love was his family.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; children, William “Bill” (Amy) Fleehearty, Ronald L. (Mary) Fleehearty, Edwin (Cheryl) Fleehearty, Connie (Steve) Mettert, Jenny (Don) Pridgen and Bob Kilgas; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Fleehearty, Roger Fleehearty and Jerry Coddington; and sister, Sue Ann Morris.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Fleehearty; a brother, Melvin Louis Fleehearty; and a stepson, Alfred Kilgas.

The funeral service will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. Keith Ross officiating.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Schneck Medical Center.
