Mabel Gertrude Ross, 98, of Commiskey, passed away at 9:25 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison.

Born Nov. 12, 1916, in Jennings County, she was the daughter of Charles Vinson and Hazel Josephine Fall. On Sept. 16, 1933, in Elrod, she married John W. Ross Sr., who preceded her in death March 20, 1972.

Mrs. Ross was a lifelong farmer and an Avon representative for more than 40 years. She attended San Jacinto schools. She was a member of Graham Presbyterian Church, Jennings County Extension Homemakers for more than 50 years, Vernon Clionion Society, District 10 Farm Bureau Women’s Leader and a 50-year member of Farm Bureau. She was a former member of Jennings County Choral Group. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, sewing, upholstering and cake decorating.

Survivors include her son, Don (Clara) Ross of Commiskey; her sister, Jeanette Koldyke of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Lee Ann Hare of Milton, Wisconsin, John Richard Ross of Arkansas, Robert Ross of Columbus, Pamela (Steven) Sinsel of Hanover and Monica (David) Reider of Cleveland, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Phillip Forkert of Commiskey, Brittany and Summer Ross, both of Columbus, and B.J. Hare of Milton, Wisconsin; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Mary Sinsel of Hanover and Cianna Reider of Colorado.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, John Ross Jr. and Dorance Lee Ross; and a daughter, Anna Marie Ross.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon.

Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Graham Presbyterian Church or Graham Baptist Cemetery.
