Churches invited to be involved in bicentennial

The Bicentennial Planning Commission of Jackson County has invited local churches to participate in the bicentennial celebration in 2016.

The committee is asking churches to participate in two ways.

The first involves a “Faith of Our Fathers” day, tentatively planned for June 5, 2016, as a day to recognize God’s blessing on each church as it reviews its history and heritage, according to a news release.

Churches also are being asked to conduct an open house on a day of their choice to showcase the art, architectural and musical aspects of their church.

Both of these events would give the public an opportunity to appreciate the importance of the churches in the county, the news release said.

Letters along with questionnaires and response forms were sent to churches during the first week of February. The questionnaire and response form need to be returned by Feb. 25.

While efforts were made to contact every church, it is possible not every church was listed in the phone book. If your church did not receive the invitation, contact Raymond Bachmann at 812-358-4461 to receive information.
