Rail bridge project discussion set

Indiana Department of Transportation officials met with contractors and local officials Monday at the Seymour District office to discuss a bridge project that will impact traffic this spring on Tipton Street in Seymour.

Dave O’Mara, the state’s contractor, plans to be on site where the U.S. 50 bridges cross Sandy Branch Creek about a half-mile west of Interstate 65 in early April. That’s near the former Max and Erma’s Restaurant.

A single lane — both eastbound and westbound — will be closed to traffic as needed during repair and overlay operations. The contract allows up to 90 days for lane restrictions. One lane in each direction should remain open to motorists at all times.

This $511,523 bridge project calls for full-depth concrete patches, milling and hydro-demolition at the 77-foot concrete slab structure and work at the approaches. A new 2-inch latex modified overlay will be installed to extend service life of the bridge.

The contract’s completion date is Oct. 15.
