FREETOWN

Gary L. Root, 62, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, with family by his side in at his home in Freetown.

He graduated from Brownstown Central High School in 1970 and went on to earn an associates degree from Ivy Tech. Gary retired as an electrical mechanic for Valeo Sylvania in addition to being the owner/operator of Redbrush Tree Farm. He was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church. Gary’s greatest joy in life was his family, and he was known for loving each and every soul to whom he was acquainted.

Born on July 30, 1952, in Seymour, he was the son of Sarah Neal Root and Homer Root. His parents preceded him in death. On March 6, 1982, Gary married Roxanne Howard Root.

Gary is survived by his loving wife; two daughters, Shona Root and Shannon Root; two sons, Brandon (Rachel) Root and Bill Smith; two brothers, Bob (Margaret) Root and Ray (Sue) Root; three sisters, June (Joe) Miller, Jeanie Root and Lisa Dunn; and a sister-in-law Anita Root.

Besides his mother and father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lonnie Root.

The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Voss Chapel with the Rev. John Dessender officiating. Burial will follow at Gorbetts Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from noon until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
