Carol Joan Young Henderson, 84, of Linton, formerly of Seymour, passed away peacefully at 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at Linton Nursing and Rehab Center.

Born Dec. 31, 1930, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Joseph and Carol Kutchback Weinberg.

Carol possessed a great love for music throughout her high school years at North Vernon, not only by playing several band instruments but also by playing the piano at various programs at First Baptist Church, where she was an active member. She went on to study under Dr. Simon at Cincinnati Conservatory of Music during high school and after graduation. She served as an affiliate teacher at Sherwood Music School in Chicago and was a member of the Indiana State Teacher’s Association and Music Teachers National Association. She also had a private music studio teaching piano, clarinet, saxophone, accordion and voice lessons. While still living in North Vernon, she served as a music and physical education instructor at Muscatatuck State Hospital and played the organ at both funeral homes in the city.

In Seymour, Carol was an active member and organist at First Presbyterian Church and again had a private music studio. She also had memberships in the Eastern Star, the local Lions club and truly enjoyed her honorary membership with her husband, “Bill” Henderson, in the Vigilante C.B. Club. She retired from Contel Telephone Co. in 1986 after 28 years of loyal and dedicated service as a telephone operator at their Seymour office.

In 1989, Carol chose to move to Linton to be closer to her daughters and their families. She was an active member of Saron United Church of Christ and the Lion’s club in the Linton area.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah (Gary L.) Kean of Linton, and Marcia (Michael) Graf of West Terre Haute; five grandchildren, Patrick Kean of Noblesville, Timothy Kean of Pendleton, Andrew Kean of Linton, Eric Graf of West Terre Haute, and Angela (Matt) Jeffers of Terre Haute; and great-grandchildren, including Benjamin Patrick, Gabriel Brian, Mallory Claire Kean and Madelynn Rose Jeffers.
