FORT PIERCE, Fla.

John Robert Strong, 76, of Fort Pierce, Florida, passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, in Okeechobee, Florida.

Born Feb. 10, 1938, in Boone County, he was the son of Lawrence W. and Maude Ragen Strong, both of whom preceded him in death. 

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his son, John Robert Strong Jr. of Florida; daughter, Jonee Strong; grandchildren, Kayden and Alexandra Strong of Seymour; brothers, Marvin (Patty) Strong of Seymour, Donald Strong of North Vernon and Leroy (Sharon) Strong of Brownstown; sisters, Alice Burke of Indianapolis, Shirley (Dale) Stigdon, Judy (Max) Gambrel and Brenda (Chris) Rottler, all of Seymour, and Susan Strong-Offering of Mitchell; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Mr. Strong was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry W. Strong and Cleo Lawrence Strong.

Because of his love for the ocean, John’s wishes were to be cremated and his cremains are to be sprinkled over the Gulf. This will take place on his birthday, Feb. 10, 2015.

A life celebration will be conducted at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society through Voss and Sons Funeral Service in Seymour.
